Traveling is one of the most enjoyable aspects of life, and if you enjoy both that and delivering news to the public, why not do both?

The luxury of being able to travel the world is one that many across the world would kill for. Sightseeing, tasting Earth's most prestigious cuisines and getting a feel for the vast array of cultures across the world. It's a privilege that many in this world do not have. So when a college student is itching to both explore the world and provide developing news stories to the people, it's a match made in heaven. Wilbert Ramirez matches that criteria perfectly. The multimedia journalism major expressed his desire to enter this field, along with some insight as to why.

"I would say my natural curiosity as a kid made me want to work in news, nothing in particular made me go towards it because I was originally in engineering, but I wasn’t looking to talk with those uncommunicative, and I thought news was a better area. I love news and photos, so why not? I think it’s fun to tell stories and inform people. I do prefer hard news. I’ll update my friends from time to time and they’ll appreciate the information."

News will never not be a prevalent aspect of society all across the globe. There are so many stories and developments going on in the world at all times and there will never not be a need for quality reporters in the industry. This LinkedIn study discusses the layoffs the journalism industry suffered in 2023.

Shifting gears to the travel aspect, Ramirez discusses his interest in traveling to places that are relevant to his news career.

"I’ve thought about international correspondence newswriting, but that’s a hard bar. This might sound crazy, but going to Ukraine would be interesting, because there’s practically a fog of war going on over there. People always know everything. Photography and viewpoints of different interests are important now."

News and travel have been intertwined since its' inception, and being able to do both is not only fulfilling lifelong dreams, but also beneficial for a career path. This article summarizes the positives of being able to travel abroad, both in a business and emotional aspect.

Countless people all across the world have a profound desire to be able to travel the world, but it's not very common that said desire actually crosses paths with your dream career. Hopping on a flight and landing in a whole new society while also being able to advance your career is a luxury that Ramirez highly anticipates taking part in. Whether he's writing, reporting or interviewing, he greatly looks forward to fulfilling both of his childhood dreams at the same time.
